Penguin’s Stopped Play
1 in stock
It seemed a simple enough idea at the outset: to assemble a team of eleven men to play cricket on each of the seven continents of the globe.
Except – hold on a minute – that’s not a simple idea at all. And when you throw in incompetent airline officials, amorous Argentine Colonels’ wives, cunning Bajan drug dealers, gay Australian waiters, overzealous American anti-terrorist police, idiot Welshmen dressed as Santa Claus, Archbishop Desmond Tutu and whole armies of pitch-invading Antarctic penguins, you quickly arrive at a whole lot more than you bargained for.
Harry Thompson’s hilarious book tells the story of one of those great idiotic enterprises that only an Englishman could have dreamed up, and only a bunch of Englishmen could possibly have wished to carry out.
A thoroughly enjoyable read!!
Every general cricket book in this section has not been paid for by the Wisden Collectors’ Club or Wisdenworld. Sometimes when Wisden collections are acquired by Wisdenworld, the seller has other non-almanacks and invariably, they are eager to dispose of them. I make it absolutely clear to the people with these books that I DO NOT have much idea on their worth and it might be best if they seek another opinion or another buyer. On most occasions, especially when dealing with a collection from someone who has passed away, they simply wish the headache removed.
It is only right that if I have not paid for these books, then every single penny including the postage paid goes to a worthy cause or two.
ALL Proceeds (including Postage) from books taken from the Latest Offers And Giveaways section of the website will be split between The Alzheimer’s Society and The Kings Arms Project (Bedford).
Thank you so much for looking and if you purchase any editions, happy reading!
